Hopefully, someday, this page will eventually show one Virigina passenger car plate for each year they've been issued.
I don't actually collect Virginia license plates, except in the few cases where I need one to complete a set. However, I've lived in states adjacent to Virginia for over 45 years, and I regularly travel to or drive through Virginia, so I've seen Virginia license plates in use on a regular basis for nearly my entire life. I also frequently have old plates in my trade box. As a result of all of this, I'm able to provide information about and photos of Virginia plates despite not collecting them.
Unlike the rest of my site, hardly any of the photos shown on this page are from my personal collection. I haven't meticulously identified the source of every plate that's not from my collection on this page, but I did photograph every plate shown unless it's credited otherwise.
If you have, or can take, a digital photo of a plate from a year not shown below, send it to me in an e-mail attachment. I'll add it to this page, and will credit you for submitting it. For any plates dated 1947 or earlier, please also provide me with the dimensions of the plate, so that I may make the size of the image in proportion to the others.
(1933, 1940 through 1942, 1945 through 1958, 1961, 1970, 1972, 1974, 1976, 1980, 1981, 1983, 1984, 1987, 1993, 2005 – Benzie plates. 1944 – Clark plate. 1985 – Kilpatrick plate. The 1959, 1977, 2003, 2004, and 2007 plates are from my own collection. All others either are or were previously in my trade box, are candid photos of plates in actual use, or have crossed my path in some other manner.)
